The 2008 Census is an integrated census and
is conducted using unique statistical methods developed by the Central
Bureau of Statistics, as a transition stage for performing administrative
censuses in the future. The integrated census eases the response burden on
the public and contributes to a saving in resources of the ongoing censuses that
will take place in the future. The integrated census combines an
enumeration of a sample of close to 20% of the households in Israel through
face-to-face interviews, with administrative data based on the Population
Registry (in small localities numbering less than 300 people, a full
enumeration of all the residents was conducted). The field work, including
enumeration in the field and completion of information by using the telephone,
is called The Population Census Survey; it began at the end of 2008 and was concluded in July 2009.
