Introduction

These proceedings are a compendium of the papers and contents presented in the
Euro-Mediterranean Workshop on "New technologies for the 2000 Census round:
Sharing the Israeli experience from the 1995 Census.

The workshop was jointly organized by EUROSTAT and the Israeli Central Bureau
of Statistics (ICBS). It was hosted by the ICBS and it was held at Kibbutz Ma'ale
Hachamisha, Israel, from March 16 to March 20, 1997.

The compendium has been organized into three sections, one reflecting each of the
main workshop issues. Each section including an extended version of the papers
presented in the workshop. An appendix has been added including a glossary of the
main terms and concepts referred in the papers.
