The publication contains 18 papers presented at the conference which was held in
Jerusalem at the end of 1996. The papers have been grouped into five sections
based on the conference's sessions: demography and epidemioloy, coping with the
frail elderly, geriatric assessment, geriatric medicine and recent research. The
papers include a comprehensive comparison of the demographics of population
aging in the countries of the Mediterranean region, as well as expositions of
different aspects of aging in Israel, Turkey, Greece and among the Palestinian
elderly. In the sphere of geriatric assessment and medicine, there are papers on
osteoporosis, depression, nutritional assessment and hypertension. The papers
