Code Lists / Classifications
A code list, or classifications, is a uniform list of values (one-to-one mapping).
A master code list is a table containing standard and uniform lists of values and classifications used by the Central Bureau of Statistics in its disseminated statistical products, such as countries, localities, and occupations (each value in the list has only one meaning).
The establishment of master code lists fulfils the need to create a single unified language for the organization. The master code lists are used by all CBS departments, and all datasets and databases include their values.
Master code lists enable the intake of data from a variety of sources and fields, and their adaptation to a single language, the integration of topics relevant to the entire organization, and the creation of uniform statistics that can be compared with other statistical products.

Master Code Lists – Objectives and Uses
This page lists the master code lists created by the CBS for the purpose of standardizing classifications, response options, and terms used by CBS in its work and statistical products.
The code lists list the names of all the response options, values, and classifications used by the CBS in its products.
1. The CBS invites the public to use code lists for additional purposes. Toward this end, the CBS grants any corporate institution or individual an unlimited right to use the code lists, for any purpose. It is clarified that the CBS is not responsible for adapting the code list for additional uses, and the responsibility for adapting the use to other needs is exclusively the user's.
2. It should be emphasized that not all code lists, and/or all the classifications and terms specified in each code list, are used in every product, because they are used in accordance with the characteristics of the product, its sources and other considerations.
As of October 2024, the CBS has been adapting its products to the terms, classifications and values in the master code lists. For this purpose, it will add to the metadata accompanying each statistical product an explanation of how the code list is to be used for that product.
3. The products will be clarified, as far as possible, in one of the following ways:
· The values in the product fully correspond to the values in the CBS's master code list.
· The values in the product do not fully correspond to the values in the CBS master code list due to the absence of certain values in the sources of information. The missing values in the sources will be listed.
· The values in the product do not correspond to the values in the code list due to relevant statistical reasons that will be listed.
4. Values, response options and classifications in products whose dissemination precedes the update date of the master code list as appearing on the CBS website, or that appeared after the day of dissemination without such explanation – their meaning is as clarified in each product.
5. The Statistics Information Center is at your disposal in any case of lack of clarity of the meaning of a value in a product.
