The Agricultural Census 2017
| Agriculture is an important industry in the Israeli economy. About a quarter of the country's land area is defined as agricultural; about half of the water produced in the country is used for agriculture; and most of the meat, dairy, vegetable and fruit products sold in the markets are from local agricultural produce. In addition, agricultural activity also creates jobs in the Trade and Services industries. In the current census, data were collected from agricultural farms, according to the records in organizations and bodies in the field of agriculture. The purpose of the census is to track the changes that have taken place in agriculture in Israel in recent years. The census data are intended for decision-makers, researchers, the general public, and more.

Response obligation and maintaining the confidentiality of the data
The Agricultural Census, like all censuses conducted by the CBS, was conducted in accordance with the Statistics Ordinance (New Version), 5732 - 1972. This ordinance obligates every person to answer questionnaires from the Central Bureau of Statistics.
The ordinance also obligates the CBS to maintain complete confidentiality regarding the persons who supply the data, and the CBS invests a great deal of effort in fulfilling this obligation.
The Agricultural Census 2017 was the first census of agriculture taking place in nearly 40 years (the last census was in 1981). In this census, data were collected on the number of farms by type, the structure of the farms, the extent of the agricultural areas, the types of agricultural and non-agricultural activity, the number of employed persons in each farm and more.
